2010 Saunemin Track & Field Team
Track season will begin for 5th through 8th grade students on Monday, March 8th. Practice will start at 3:00 and will get over at 4:30. In order to participate, each athlete must have the following turned in:
1. A current physical (less than one year old)
2. An insurance waiver, or school insurance
3. Training rules signed by parents and athlete
4. An emergency procedure form.
During the track season, the athletes must remain eligible according to the IESA rules. These state that an athlete must be doing passing work in all school subjects. Coaches will be notified each Monday as to which athletes are not eligible to participate that week (Monday through Saturday.) Athletes that are not eligible will not be allowed to participate in meets or practices. Any athlete who is ineligible for any three weeks will be eliminated from the team. We will begin checking eligibility on March 8.
Practices will be scheduled on Wednesday, but any athlete who is involved in after school religion classes is excused. However, if religion classes are in the evening, we would like athletes to be at practice. Since practices are over by 4:30, we feel this still gives athletes time to eat and get homework done.
Rules:
1. Come to track practice with shorts (no metal – no jeans), a t-shirt, and tennis shoes. It would also be a good idea to bring sweatpants and a sweatshirt/jacket since we run a mile around town many days. If you do not have these items, it will be an unexcused absence.
2. Practice is from 3 to 4:30 daily – see schedule (Odell and Pontiac Christian tracksters will start as soon as they get there).
3. Make sure someone is there to pick you up every day by 4:30 – both coaches have children to get home to!
4. Inappropriate gestures toward or communication with any one will result in dismissal from the track team.
5. If you must miss a practice, let a coach know at least one day in advance WITH A PARENT SIGNED NOTE! (Excused misses are doctor’s appointments, funerals, family vacations, absence from school)
6. If you miss a practice without notifying a coach, you will run an extra mile the following practice. The 3rd unexcused absence will result in you being dismissed from the team.
7. You will need to purchase a T-shirt as part of the uniform. Royal blue shorts will be loaned to each trackster or you may purchase your own royal blue shorts if they are a close match. T-shirts usually run around $10 and you will keep the shirt after the season is over.
8. If you must miss a meet, you must let me know at least one week in advance (I need at least a 10 day notice if you will miss Sectionals – May 8th or County meet – May 10th) WITH A PARENT SIGNED NOTE!
9. If you miss a meet without notifying a coach in advance, you will be dismissed from the team immediately!
10. No candy, gum, pop, food, etc. at practice.
11. If you plan to leave an away track meet with a parent, your parent must sign you out on the clip board (found at camp.)
12. If you will NOT be riding the bus TO an away track meet (usually Odell or Pontiac Christian tracksters), let Coach Beyers or Coach Roahrig know so that we do not hold the bus up waiting for you.
13. Please bring sweats to all track meets as the temperature usually drops before the meet is over. You may bring snacks and/or NON-POP drinks to meets.
In addition to the above, the coaches will expect each athlete to work up to their ability. Track is an individual and team sport. We would like each member to strive for personal improvement throughout the season in order to better represent Saunemin. Individual interests will be considered, but the coaches will make the final decision as to which events the athletes are entered in. The decision will be based on what is best for the individual and the team.
**Depending on team size, all athletes are not guaranteed to participate in Sectionals or County.
