Health Department Announces H1N1 Vaccination Clinics

Flu Season Precautions

September 14, 2009

The Livingston County Health Department has announced H1N1 vaccination clinics for first priority groups beginning on Wednesday, October 21.  Both nasal mist and injections will be offered.  Click for H1N1 announcement and dates.

The change in seasons means flu season is just around the corner. We want to take all necessary precautions to help prevent the spread of the flu, including the H1N1 virus, commonly referred to as the swine flu. Maintenance personnel will clean and disinfect specified contact areas daily. Classroom teachers will talk to each class about hygiene and how to prevent the spread of germs. As parents, there is also much you can do to help not only protect your child, but others as well. If your child has flu like symptoms, please keep them home until the symptoms cease. When you call your child in ill, please let us know if your child has a fever of over 100, coughing, or sore throat. We are collecting this information to help track, and perhaps slow the H1N1 virus. If you send your child to school and these symptoms are evident or develop during the day, we will ask that you come and pick your child up immediately. To assist you as parents, please click here for information on how to protect your child and family from the flu this school year. Furthermore, if your child is considered at higher risk for the flu, please click here for more information. Both links also include information on flu symptoms.

Nothing you or the school does will guarantee children will not get sick, but we can make a huge difference in the prevention of the flu. It is highly unlikely we will cancel school because some students or staff have the flu. Please communicate with your child's school if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your cooperation with this important matter.
